Uncertain Terrain is a multidisciplinary design practice bridging landscape, architecture, urban design, ecology, and policy. Uncertain Terrain provides expertise in climate mitigation design and policy, embodied carbon and life cycle assessment, renewable energy infrastructure design and impact assessment, ecological restoration strategies, and landscape connectivity amelioration.

We view landscapes as complex, dynamic socio-ecological systems neither wholly natural nor entirely engineered. Uncertain Terrain is a space of anxiety and wonder. A space of great richness and also a space of profound inequity and instability. These are landscapes that cannot be readily understood using a single method or viewpoint. These are landscapes that arise from the layering of history, narrative, mechanism, and process.
